Textbook: Precalculus: A Prelude to Calculus, Sheldon Axler, First Edition, WileyPLUS (see page 3, no need of hardcopy).

Homework: There will be 13 homework assignments on WileyPLUS. They are all due at noon of the days as shown in the tentative schedule.

Quizzes and Tests: The first 6 Quizzes and all 4 Tests are on Thursday, during recitations. The last quiz, Quiz 7 is on Wednesday (11/24) during lecture. They are all closed books, closed notes, no calculator allowed, only papers and pencils. 

The material covered by each quiz and test is projected as follows:

            Quiz1 = HW1

            Quiz2 = HW1+HW2

            Quiz3 = HW1+HW2+HW3

            Test 1 = HW1+HW2+HW3+HW4+ Practice problems (if applicable) + examples during lectures

            Quiz4 = HW5+HW6

            Test 2 = HW5+HW6+HW7 + Practice problems (if applicable) + examples during lectures

            Quiz5 = HW8

            Quiz6 = HW8+HW9

            Test 3 = HW8+HW9+HW10+ Practice problems (if applicable) + examples during lectures

            Quiz7 = HW11

            Test 4 = HW11+HW12 + Practice problems (if applicable) + examples during lectures

Final exam: The final exam will cover the whole course material (cumulative).

 

Any changes of grades are only considered within 1 week from return date.

Make-up: You have to contact the instructor for permission no later than 2 weeks before the test/quiz, unless emergency. If you don’t have solid proofs, do not try to ask for a make-up.

For the Final, you need to ask the instructor at least 3 weeks before the final (again, with solid proofs).

TA’s evaluation: Based on your attendance and participation during recitations, your TA will give you up to 5% toward the course grade.

Final exemption: If you get ≥92% average after Test 4, you will be exempted from the final.

Grading Scale: HW 5%, Quiz 15%, Test 50%, Final 25%, TA’s evaluation 5%

≥90%: at least A

≥80%: at least B

70%: at least C

60%: at least D
