The FAQs

  1. Where is the class? The lectures and the recitations will be in room 149 of the Skiles Building.
  2. Are calculators allowed in the tests? Yes.
  3. Did you get my mail? Well, if I didn't, how would I know? I try to send at least a brief acknowledgment to my students' mail, so if you got no reply, you may wish to try again. However, you should be warned that if your handle is GarbageMan666@aol.com, the subject line had better be "2411" and not "hey," because I get a lot of spam and I throw it away without reading it.
  4. I am writing to inquire about what applications you would recommend for Math 2411 and if they are available for the Macintosh. We will use mathematical software. The campus standard is Maple for mathematical calculations, and it certainly runs on the Macintosh, as well as on Windows and Linux. I believe the computer store sells a "software suite" which contains Maple and many other useful applications at a good price. The text supports two competing software applications, Maple and Mathematica, equally. They have similar capabilities, and they are both available on all stadard platforms.

In addition, you should have good software for getting onto the Web, including a Java-capable browser and Acrobat Reader.

  5. When is the final exam? When ready, the final schedule will be on-line at
http://www.oscarweb.gatech.edu/oscar.spring/finals.html Please tell me as soon as possible about conflicts (with full, precise details about the class or classes with which we have a conflict), graduating status, etc. I need this information by e-mail or in writing.
