• Calculus, One and Several Variables, by Salas, Hille, and Etgen (Tenth Edition); John Wiley and Sons, Inc., 2007.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Multivariable calculus: Linear approximation and Taylor's theorems, Lagrange multiples and constrained optimization, multiple integration and vector analysis including the theorems of Green, Gauss and Stokes.

PREREQUISITES

MATH 1502.

HOMEWORK

Homework will be due on Mondays in the beginning of the recitation, and will be graded selectively. Late homework will not be accepted, unless for documented reason, decided by the instructor. Sample homework problems will be discussed by the teaching assistants. You can download the homework from the home-page of the course. You may discuss homework problems together, however you are required to write the solutions separately . Please staple your homework, and write clearly, each problem on a new page. The two lowest homework grades will be dropped. Any missed homework will bed counted as zero. There are no exceptions (due to health, or other circumstances) to missed homework.

MIDTERM-EXAM

There will be two in-class midterm exams on Wednesday September 30 and Wednesday November 4. No make-up exams. The first midterm will cover chapters 14.1-16.3 (including 16.3). The second midterm will cover chapters 16.4-17.7 (including 17.7). No calculators or notes.

FINAL EXAM

The final exam will be on Thursday Dec 10 2:50pm - 5:40pm.

GRADES

The final grade will be calculated according to the following scheme:
• Homework : 15 %
• Midterms : 2 x 20 %
• Final Exam : 45 %
It is expected that an average of around 80% gives an A and an average of below 45% or a final exam grade of less than 40% results in failure.

• Calculators, formula sheets, notes or texts are not allowed during midterms and final exams.
• Consultation/collaboration for homework is allowed and encouraged, however the homework should be written separately.
