Belinfante's Summer 2007 Math 1522 Section A Class
The class meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 1:20-2:30 p.m. in Skiles 243.
This bridge course covers most of the topics in linear algebra usually taught in
freshman calculus, but at a somewhat more leisurely pace. The emphasis is on
matrix operations and practical calculations, but some theory must be mastered
to accomplish this. Students are expected to know the statements of theorems
but will not ordinarily be asked to produce proofs. Deeper theorems will only
be illustrated and not formally proved.
There is no recitation section for this course. Students are strongly encouraged
to ask questions in class, especially about homework problems. Since the class
is 70 minutes long, there should be time for such questions on most days.
- PDF files. Practice exams will be posted here.
Files with .pdf extension can be viewed with the freely available
Adobe Acrobat Free Reader. With the proper plug-in, your browser can
read these .pdf files directly. If not, save these files and access
them outside the browser.
There is a PDF version for one of the Mathematica
notebooks contained in the Mathematica directory.
- Mathematica files. The *.log files and *.m
files are ASCII files that can be read with any editor (such as Notepad).
Pictures created in these sessions have been converted to *.pdf format
and can be found in the PDF directory. To read Mathematica *.nb
notebook files one first needs to download and install the free
Wolfram Research. MathReader can be installed as a plugin for your internet
- Bourbaki School of Math
Online Resources. The core courses Math 1502 and 2602 contain some of the same
material as Math 1522.
