MATH 2602 Homework Instructions
Fall 2014

Homework due: Every Wednesday at the end of class.

Core problems: Are selected or made by the instructor, provide examples which will let you practice some of the basic concepts taught in lecture. I will usually be following the book so it is a very good idea to get a copy and use the book's exercises for seeing solutions of similar problems worked out in detail.

Supplementary problems: Are selected or made by the TAs. Each TA will get a chance to make the supplementary problems, and their name will appear at the top of the homework page with mine. The TA who made the supplementary problems will grade that assignment as well as the core problems, and they also will grade the quiz that week.

Quizzes and Exams: all questions on quizzes and exams are made by me (your instructor/lecturer, Dr. Sal Barone). I will generally stick pretty closely to the concepts discussed in the both the core and supplementary homework problems when making the quiz each week, and then I will stick pretty closely to the homework and quiz problems for making the exams.

No late homework excepted, except for official Georgia Tech business.

Working with others/Using your TAs/Piazza: There has been a Piazza discussion board set up. You can post questions you have about homework, quiz, exam problems or any other class related problems. You can also post questions from the book that are not otherwise assigned (but are a good match for a question that may be on the exam/quiz). Feel free to use Piazza however you like if you would like to help other people who have questions, but when you are submitting any work for grading make sure that it is your own. See the syllabus for the Georgia Tech policy on academic honesty. You can also work in groups in recitation on the homework problems, come to either my or the TAs office hours for extra help, or ask your TA for help during recitation. I also welcome any concerns you may have at any point in the semester (like, the class is going to fast/slow, the homework assignments are too long, the quizzes are too hard, etc.). I don't expect there to be an overwhelming amount of complaints, of course, but if anything ever is on your mind don't hesitate to let either myself of your TA know (or post it on Piazza to see if anyone else agrees with you!).

Homework objective: The objective of the homework is to give you practice using the concepts, definitions which are first discussed in lecture on Thursday. You will receive a worksheet to do in recitation every Monday which will act as a primer which will introduce the concepts which will be covered on the homework and quiz that week. In the lectures on Tuesday and Thursday we will discuss the topics, and in recitation you are supposed to be practicing using them through the Monday worksheet and the Wednesday quiz. You can also use the recitation time to work in groups on the homework or worksheet problems, go over old quiz problems or other book problems, or review for exams, but talk to your TA if you'd like to suggest that more/less time be spent on any of these activities.
