Can you rewrite the grading formula in terms of a data vector, with elements like T1, T2, etc.,
and vector operations? (The head-scratcher in this is the "min" part?)
Value: 1 point,
submitted
by 22 January.
-
One point for the most creative and interesting curve drawn with software,
such as Mathematica's ParametricPlot command
submitted
by Thursday, 24 January.
-
Find a formula for a saddle like the "funky saddle" that made an appearance in
Monday's lecture.
What do the gradient and Hessian matrix tell you
about the funky saddle point at the origin x = y = 0?
Carefully discuss the tangent planes and the (3D)
normal vectors at points near the origin. Due Thursday, 14 Feb.
Several of you submitted correct analyses, but the award goes to Rehman Ali
for a nice description of this cubic surface. Congratulations, Rehman!
-
What is the mathematician's street number in the math story of the lecture of
21 February? Congratulations to Riesling Meyer for solving this one before the
lecture was finished.
